Due to exams I think I'll be going on a bit of a haitus from now on, not that I post much on here anyway... but I'll have loads more paintings to post when the exam period is over! I post
on tumblra lot but this will also slow down during my exams, though I may put a few things on queue.
May ExpoProbably won't be going due to exams, but I'm still trying to convince my parents that it will be a great weekend of stress relief, which I will probably be desperately in need of by then.
My cosplays will go something like this if I can go.
(human) Doc Scratch from Homestuck
I'll have white face paint on most likely, it's just a shame there's no way I'll be able to afford contact lenses by then. I may also have a white broom, it depends how everything goes.
Spades Slick from Homestuck
I'll have a completely different scar - this one put too much strain on my other eye, which happens to be my bad one, so it'll just be a thin scar that doesn't cover my complete eye so I can open it and actually read things easily. Again, I'd like to get a contact lens for this for the blind eye, but that will have to wait until next expo.
And then there are the ones which I'll bring and decide what to wear on the day:
- Clubs Deuce from Homestuck/Problem Sleuth
- Pickle Inspector from Problem Sleuth
- Navi from Legend of Zelda ...wait, a non-Homestuck cosplay?!
Well, I'm making a pair of large fairy wings for a party, so I'll see how that goes and if I like wearing them I'll consider bringing them up to expo for a day.
See my tumblr for more updates! I will try to edit this journal when I 100% know that I'm going/not going, and if I'm going I'll post test shots of the costumes I'm going to wear with the days I'll be wearing them, but I don't hold much luck at the moment.
LFCCA convention I've been iffy about going to, due to recommendations from people, but I think I'll try out at least one day if possible, especially if I can't make it to May expo. Not sure what I'd cosplay for this, though I really want to do something comic based to make a change from my usual anime/video game costumes. If I don't go to May expo, expect something big - I'll have both the time and money to do something I've been considering for a while, especially now a certain movie has come out. Or Navi, though I'll have to add a few mechanics to the wings so they don't get in the way.
tl;dr
On the subject of wings...I have finally cracked it! It's sooo simple, I don't know why it's taken me this long to figure it out! I even saw a video of someone who used a similar design for their moving wings and didn't realise how it worked, but fjbshjfbahlbajhfbljhfadgbahjlbhlbg

DDDD
Only problem is, these wings are gonna be pretty heavy due to the 'machine' on the backpack, since it's got to be pretty strong or it'll break, and that means using wood/mdf at the moment, since I don't think I can afford strong lightweight plastic, let alone figure out where they sell it! But I'm really pleased that I finally know how to do this, and sorry! I won't be sharing my technique! You'll have to figure it out yourself, unless I feel generous in a couple of years. Like one of my friends and her digitigrade stilts, I don't want people copying it and claiming it as their own design when they've blatantly seen how I do it - so if I don't tell people it really will be their own design and I won't get all protective over it! Or I might, but at least they would have thought it through themselves and probably done things differently to me. idk, I'm just really pleased with this, which you can probably tell. Just gotta figure out how this will work for--- got it! Man, when you think like this is really does all fall into place! (And yes, I really did just solve part of the problem while writing this journal.)
I will try this out on Navi first, since moving fairy wings will always be easier than moving bird wings, mainly due to the fact that they're insanely light and don't have as many points of articulation.
I shall stop talking now, I congratulate you if you've read through all of that! I am willing to share my technique with a couple of costumery friends, but you'll probably know who you are by now, or will do very soon. I really, really can't wait to start making these!
